Northern Mockingbird.... what a
racket this guy made one summer
afternoon.   He did his song and
dance for about an hour on a
nearby telephone pole.
In August, 2008 we had an invasion of
these huge (3-4 inches) caterpillars....
literly thousands of them on the
ground.   This is the caterpillar stage
of the hummingbird moth (
Hiles
lineata),
the largest moth in this area.
Lesser Goldfinches seen in
December, 2008.  They are
attracted by Nyjer seed.
