NGC2070, Tarantula Nebula
This image was taken November 30, 2007 using a telescope on the Global Rent-A-Scope network (GRAS).
The scope is located in southern Australia and I was able to control it through the internet.  This image is
formed from 5 x 5 minute exposures.  This is a grayscale image since a filter was used which only allows a
narrow band of light (Hydrogen Alpha) to reach the camera.  This nebula is located far to the south and
cannot be seen from North America.  NGC2070 is a huge extra-galactic nebula and is one of the largest
known.  It is located on the edge of one of our sister galaxies, the Large Magellanic Cloud, which is about
170,000 light years from Earth.  It is roughly 100 times larger than the famous Orion nebula, M42, which is
located in our galaxy.
