Rome

We were in Rome nine days and loved the city, in spite of the overwhelming traffic at times.  It is the only
city we have been where being a pedestrian was akin to taking your life in your hands!  But the bus system
worked well and we were able to get around the city very easily.  The Galleria Borghese was our favorite
museum and the Palatine Hill was the most scenic of the ruins of Rome.  But for us, the whole city was
charming.  We also visited Vatican City and saw Pope Benedict XVI... closer than we expected.  Near the
end of our stay we took the train to Pompeii, south of Naples... very interesting.  Needless to say, the food
in Rome is wonderful.  We had an apartment south of the Tiber River and cooked some meals there.
However, when we did eat out it was great food, but very expensive.
